Westercon 30

Dates: July 1st-4th, 1977
Venue: Totem Park Residence, UBC
Guests of Honour: Damon Knight & Kate Wilhelm

Vancouver fandom tackled its first Westercon in 1977. The con featured panels on Star Trek, space colonisation, alternatives to patriarchy, and Arthurian Britain, as well as a short fiction workshop subtitled (tongue in cheek): "Earn Big Money in Your Spare Time." There was a memorial presentation to Hugo Gernsback, an SCA tourney, and the first presentation of that con classic, the "Brass Bra" slide show. The halftime act at the masquerade was the Flying Karamazov Brothers.
