Boris Giltburg, piano

“playing of bravura and rhetoric, diablerie and elegance ”

The virtuosity of Russian pianist Boris Giltburg inspired the music critic of Britain’s The Independent to praise “his weightless, crystalline sound” and invoke Giltburg’s “keyboard gods” — the incomparables, Sviatoslav Richter and Arthur Rubinstein.

Born in 1984 in Moscow, Giltburg began his piano studies with his mother at the age of five, then moved to Tel Aviv. He made his debut with the Israel Philharmonic in 2005, and his North American orchestra debut in 2007 with the Indianapolis Symphony. Since his 2007 breakthrough concert with the Philharmonia in London’s Royal Festival Hall, Giltburg has been an annual visitor. He performed at the 2010 BBC Proms under Martyn Brabbins, and gives regular recitals at Wigmore Hall and the Southbank Centre. His touring schedule takes him throughout Europe, North America and Asia.

Presented in collaboration with The Vancouver Recital Society.
