Medium
Metals, including brass, copper and steel with the addition
of natural
elements such as wood and stone.
Process
I produce kinetic metal sculpture and lamps, using techniques
such as welding, foil metal etching and panel beating. I see
the image in my imagination and the concept is realised through
the manipulation of soft, malleable metal products using heat
and chemicals. Copper and brass foil is used in conjunction
with reclaimed metal materials. The sculptures evolve aseach
hurdle is overcome in pursuit of the image in my mind's eye.
The creation of each component yields the satisfaction in the
completion of the whole piece.
Subject matter
There are three strands to my subject matter natural, mythological
and
musical. The natural environmental series depicts images from
my local
coastal environment. The mythological series reflects legends
using metal
imagery from unusual perspectives. The musical series incorporates
reclaimed brass instruments with images from Jazz. These pieces
often take the form of table lamps.

tiles and
copper, with Margaret M Hardwick and Joyce McDonald, completed
1997.
