Question #1

Is a retired member and his family still covered under the employee assistance program?

Answers: After checking with the Human Resourses Dept., the contract reads "
Employees and their Families" are elegible for the EAP. Retirees are no
longer considered employees so are not entitled to EAP benefits.

Work is being done to possibly add retirees to those who can
use this service.

After consulting with the corporation, the fire chief and the union an agreement has been reached whereby a retiree (but not his family) are now eligible to use the Employee Assistance Program - (EAP).

Question #2

What can the Delta Firefighters Benevolent Society do to help with a retirees funeral?

Answers: After a meeting with the Benevolent Society an addition to their benefits includes this for retirees: Upon the death of a retired member of Local 1763 each member of the Society will be assessed the sum of $10.00. This sum to be immediately turned over to the widow or next of kin to help defray the funeral expenses.This assessment to he membership will only be done if the financial stability of the Society is in jeopardy.

Note; For 150 members that would be $1500.00

What are the benefits/reasons for paying dues to the I.A.F.F. and becoming an "active
retired member" of the union?

Answers:

This is a partial answer, hopefully someone can respond with more or better reasons. 1) Receive the union magazine 2) Receive a retired members union window sticker 3) Receive a retired membership card from the I.A.F.F. 4) Membership allows you to attend
Local 1763 union meetings and take part in discussions ( it does not allow
you to vote on any issues). Jack

Question #4 - For those members approching retirement what can the Ben. Society do for them?
Answers: The Benevolent Society will pay for the first month of medical benefits during the transition period from being an active member to being a retired member
