38TH B-P GUILD

The 38th B-P Guild operates in Sur-Del under a Charter from the B.C. Yukon Provincial Council of B.-P. Guilds. The Guild is a member of the International Scout and Guide Fellowship. (I.S.G.F.) The Guild was founded at Sur-Del, May 31, 1992. The First annual meeting and election of officers was held on November 3,1992.

OBJECTIVES OF THE GUILD
  1. To keep alive among our members the Spirit of the Scout/Guide Promise and Law.
  2. To carry that spirit into the communities in which we live and work.
  3. While remembering our other responsibilities, actively to support Scouting and Guiding in our communities.
  4. To ensure that there is an appropriate role for each and every member in our
MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the Guild is open to anyone, including spouses, sincerely interested in serving Scouting/Guiding. The applicant must be willing to subscribe to the objectives of the Guild and be prepared to accept the Scout/Guide Promise and the Spirit of the Scout/Guide Law. Any member may invite guests and sponsor new members.
DRESS
No formal dress is stipulated; however, it is suggested that a dark blue blazer with gray slacks be worn. (Women may prefer a gray skirt).
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The elected officers of the Guild shal be:
  • Guildmaster (Chairperson)
  • Assistant Guildmaster
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Social Director
  • Investiture Officer (amended Nov.29/95)
Other committee members shall be:
  • Publicity/historian/keeper of the log
  • Fundraising
The immediate Past Guildmaster shall be member of the Executive Committee until succeeded by the next Past Guildmaster. Three (3) Executive Committee members shall constitute a quorum.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
  1. Unless otherwise appointed by the Executive, the Nomination Chairperson shall be the Immediate Past Guildmaster. The Nominations Chairperson will assume the Chair at the Annual Meeting to conduct the election.
  2. The Auditor for the ensuing year is also elected at the annual meeting.
  3. Every member has one (1) vote, but may also cast a proxy vote for an absent member, provided the proxy is in the form of writen consent from the absent member. The Guildmaster, in the case of the tie vote in any matter, has the right to cast a additional vote to break the tie.
TERMS OF OFFICE
  1. The elected Executive Officers shall hold office from Annual Meeting to Annual Meeting.(amended Nov/95)
  2. The Executive Officers shall be elected for the following terms:
    • GUILDMASTER -2 YEAR TERM -elected in odd year
    • SECRETARY -2 YEAR TERM -elected in odd year
    • INVESTITURE OFFICERS (2) -2 YEAR TERM -elected in odd year
    • ASST.GUILDMASTER -2 YEAR TERM -elected in even year
    • TREASURER -2 YEAR TERM -elected in even year
    • SOCIAL DIRECTORS (2) -2 YEAR TERM -elected in even year (amended Nov./95)
DUES
  1. Annual dues shall be determined at the Annual General Meeting by majority vote for the following year, and such dues are payable at that Annual General Meeting. New members joining before June 30 of the following year will pay annual dues; those joining after June 30th will pay half the annual dues for that year.
  2. Dues shall include the fees of the B.C./Yukon Provincial Council of Boy Scouts of Canada and the B.C. Council of B.-P. Guilds and the International Fellowship of Former Scouts and Guides (I.F.O.F.S.A.G.)
NOTE: All Guild members, through the registration with the B.C./Yukon Council are full and registered members of the Boy Scouts Canada and are insured under Scout Insurance when on official duties.
MEETINGS
  1. There shall be a minimum of five (5) General Meetings each year, one of which will be the ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING during the month of November.
  2. Special General Meetings may be called by a majority of the Executive, or upon the request of any three (3) Guild members with due notice.
  3. The Guildmaster and the Secretary, or their appointed alternatives, are voting delegates from the 38th B.-P. Guild to the B.C. Council of B.-P. Guilds at their General Meetings.
This Constitution of the 38th Canadian B.-P. Guild may be amended by By-Laws. Notice of Motion concerning any proposed By-Law(s) may be submitted by any members, in writing, at an regular meeting for discussion, and the motion, if seconded, will be put to a vote of the membership at the Annual General Meeting in November. (Amended, Nov./95) If for any reason the Guildmaster is unable to complete his term of office, the Assistant Guildmaster will complete the Guildmaster's term until that term has expired. If for any reason the Assistant Guildmaster is unable to complete that task the Executive Officers of the Guild shall appoint a temporary Guildmaster. That temporary Guildmaster would remain in office until the next Annual General Meeting. (Amended, Nov./95)
