WHAT DO GUILDERS DO IN THE 38TH?
Activities in the 38th B-P Guild fall into three categories:
SERVICE TO SCOUTING AND YOUTH
- Since our primary role is to promote the continued growth and interest in scouting and guiding in the geographical area that we serve, the Guild strives to provide manpower for scouting events such as:
WATERSHED PARK FUN NIGHT
- Guild members provide security at two checkpoints to ensure the safe entry into the park of scouting and guiding youth, their leaders as well as parents accompanying non-scouting siblings. At the conclusion of the event. Guild members ensure that all children who exit the park are accounted for. The ultimate objective of this service is ensure that all participants enjoy themselves but do not become separated from their leaders and parents.
REGIONAL BEAVEREE - Guild members serviced this event by directing vehicles into and out of the parking lot at this years site in Cloverdale
APPLE DAY/NIGHT - Whilst Venturers and Rovers keep collection sites well-stocked with fresh apples for Beavers at strategic locations, Guild members take care of the money side by helping with counting the donations
SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY
- Service to the community in which we live also forms part of the aims and objectives of the Guild movement and takes several forms:
ADOPT-A-STREET PROGRAM - Since 1999 the 38th B-P Guild has "adopted" four blocks of highway in North Delta on 112th St from 80th Avenue on the south to 84th Avenue on the north. Several times a year Guild members don special reflective yellow vests and do a "sweep" of these four blocks picking up non-hazardous garbage. By doing our bit to remove unsightly garbage from this area we take pride in maintaining a small yet busy segment of the North Delta area. The program is infectious because a local Trefoil Guild (affiliated to Girl Guides of Canada) has adopted an adjacent length of 112th St which means that together scouting and guiding has "adopted" a 10block long major thoroughfare in our community. Signposts are erected at each end of "our zone" to publicize that the 38th B-P Guild is responsible for keeping the street free of litter. When our Guilders do their cleanup on a Saturday morning they often get acknowledged by passing motorists with a toot and a thumbs up!
If you should see them on your next drive through those blocks show your support as they love to hear that local residents appreciate what they are doing to maintain pride in their community.

CHRISTMAS TOYS FOR DELTASSIST - In 2002 as a new venture the Guild constructed hundreds of wood toys(planes and trucks) for needy children whose parents could not afford to spend money on Christmas presents. In a classic example of teamwork Santa's Workshop progressed from the basic cutting of the large volume of parts to the assembly of each toy. This was followed by a major painting and drying stage. This initiative was a perfect "make-you-feel-good" effort and there were a lot of very happy children on Christmas morning who would otherwise have been deprived of the sheer joy of receiving a new toy!

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
- Guilders are a gregarious bunch, bonded by their history of scouting and guiding. As such they love to socialize and they have a busy but rewarding social calendar. Regular bi-monthly meetings are held at home base - the Strawberry Hill Hall but now and then they hold a business meeting at a local family restaurant to combine business with pleasure. Past events have been broad in range: Cloverdale Raceway, Giggle Dam Comedy Supper Club, local theatre productions, winery tours, etc. They are constantly on the lookout for new activities to stimulate interest.
Guilders always strive to keep alive the spirit of Scouting and Guiding! In doing so they have FUN, FUN, FUN!
