The Sunshine Coast

Beautiful British Columbia

The Sunshine Coast is considered by many to be the best of two worlds in one place. It’s close enough to Vancouver to have the big city next door. Yet it requires a 45-minute ferry ride up the coast from Horseshoe Bay (West Vancouver), so it maintains a small town flavour. It has a large tourist draw in the summer months to help out economically. Yet it has escaped the heavy development of the lower mainland.

So the Sunshine Coast is a 50-mile stretch of coastal highway just north of Vancouver with two small towns (Gibsons and Sechelt; populations about 4000 and 8000) and numerous hamlets. Another ferry ride will get you farther up the coast to the Powell River area. It is a retirement area in certain respects with upward of 50% seniors.

Lot’s of need for construction tradesmen as the area is growing more and more quickly. Obviously the service sector also provides many jobs. Fairly high cost of living though not compared to Vancouver.

The Coast is a very friendly place and the crime rate seems not to be a great concern. However, there is much need for vigorous churches with evangelistic zeal and insight as the darkness of materialism and New Age spirituality is great.

Where is the Sunshine Coast? It is definitely on your map. But come on up and help us put an asterisk beside it.
