Dresden Plate
Description & History
This colourful Dresden Plate quilt was made from a collection of Dresden Plates found in the cupboards of First United Church. The Ladner United Quilters appliquéd the plates onto the white background fabric, added new centre circles, and pieced the blocks with red and yellow sashing, adding blocks and borders in a bright blue pineapple reproduction print.
The fabrics in the Dresden Plates are undated, but appear to be a collection of different cottons, polyesters and blends dating from the 1940's to the 1970's.
"Then all the congregation …came, everyone who's heart was stirred and everyone who's spirit was willing, and brought the Lord's offering to be used for the tent of meeting and for all its service, and for the sacred vestments. All the skillful women spun with their hands and brought what they had spun in blue and purple and crimson yarns and fine linens." Exodus 35:20, 25
