Here is a Bible-based character development program that is simple enough for elementary-aged children to use on their own.

Introducing Christian Virtues is a self-study workbook for children in grades 3-6.

Each virtue is presented on one double-sided page, as follows:

ú a  brief definition of the virtue

ú a list of synonyms and antonyms

ú two Aesop’s Fables illustrate each virtue

ú some multiple-choice questions

ú two related Bible verses

The best things about this program:

It’s simple –  Lessons do not need to be prepared in advance.  Children can use this book entirely on their own.  The lessons are fun, fast and interesting.

It’s adaptable – There are extension activities and a reading list at the back of the book for those who wish to spend more time on a particular virtue.

It’s non-threatening – this program does not present young children with “moral dilemmas.”  (It is much easier for a young child to answer a question about the character of “the fox” or “the wolf” than to explain their own behavior and motives.)

It’s Bible-based – Each virtue is supported by two scriptures.

Reviews

Dear Maggie,

We began using your Christian Virtues Using Aesop's Fables program in January and are loving it.  My nine year old says that it gives her a good outlook on how to act and how to treat her family and friends better and that the program is fun.  She likes the variety in questions because she likes writing in her own answers and explaining things in her own way.

My eleven year old says that she enjoys the fables and they provide her with concrete examples of each virtue.  She enjoys answering all of the questions and likes the "Bible says" section.

We all enjoy working through the lessons and each lesson seems to lead to discussion and a heartfelt prayer time.  I appreciate the program because the children can work through it independently and it clearly explains the meaning and characteristics of each virtue.  The Bible verses and passages are very applicable and provide great verses for memory work.  Our family has definitely benefited from the program.

My children and I have been reading "Introducing Christian Virtues Using Aesop's Fables" by Maggie Rayner.  I am amazed at how much they love the lessons taught in this workbook and how well they have grasped the concepts.  It is an easy to use book that challenges young hearts to live Godly lives.  When we read this book it is one part of our home-school day that we all look forward to.

Sincerely,
