MR2 Interior and Power Train Restoration

The first thing restored on the 1987 MR2 MK1 NA was the body. After that, the interior and power train were systematically restored as required.

Power Train Restoration

The engine restoration included valve seal refurbishment, plus new clutch, water pump, and transmission rebuild

The exhaust manifold shown at the right was installed at the rebuild time, but was later replaced along with the flex pipe with new Toyota parts. The flex pipe has a minor leak and there is a non-leaking crack starting to develop in the exhaust manifold. These parts are still usable and superior to the equivalent items in the donor Mk1 into which they will be installed.

Interior Restoration

This illustrates the finished product of swapping in high quality and restored seats, panels and console. A new leather shifter boot is also installed.

On previous restoration efforts a new-condition leather 3-point steering wheel was installed. As well, all door plastics were replaced/refinished.

This is the interior material removed in the final upgrade. By most peoples evaluation, all these would be considered in good to excellent condition.

These parts will be installed into the donor Mk1 as a practical means of storage.
