The Story

In our world, most people are aware of three dimensions. These dimensions are commonly known as Heaven, Hell and Earth. For many ages people were content to know of only these three. And then, five hundred years ago, a fourth opened up.

The inhabitants of this world were unlike the others. Heaven, for example, contained only angels pure of heart and mind, Earth bound the fallen angels (humans) to it’s ground and Hell grabbed those of darkened heart and evil mind to fall into it’s depths.

In the new dimension there were many creatures waiting for the light. The majority seemed to be spirits- ghosts of what was, is and will come. These creatures were both kind and evil, but it is hard to assume so easily with spirits. For you see, many of them have taken to hiding until they become purely past, and then they fade away. These spirits are not the only creatures who live here. Mysterious beings that seem identical to the human race also inhabit this strange world. These beings are not so different from the fallen angels, except for one thing. The Nymphs (as they are called) have magical powers. Some cursed and some gifted and everything in between. All nymphs had the ability to use magic at the beginning of creation, but much of it was lost to the Scatterwinds.

The time of creation passed. Many of the nymphs forgot about the spirits. They lived only in the same illusion of a peaceful and perfect world in which they were alone. Five thousand and seventy years passed.

The time of peace ended abruptly. The Scatterwinds caught hold of a new rumor. A young and powerful mage was rising in the east and a talented witch in the west. Tales had it that he and his sister rose from the oceans and were coming. These two siblings were called the destroyers; they were to end all things.

As history the people of Pentira had nothing. The dimension seemed to have just risen from the sea. Ancient nymphs had explored beyond the island, but found there was nothing but blue water and sea-spirits.

In the other dimensions, things went as planned. The newer dimension fell behind all it’s years, and soon it resembled ancient Japan.

The only keepers of the traditional magic now were the Three Queens of Pentira. The Northern Queen’s estates had already come to war. Lies and hatred broke apart her once peaceful people. They quarreled all the time and the Queen could do nothing. She sat and she waited.

The Middle Kingdom and the Southern kingdom broke out into war. Venomous rage over land caused the Kings to close their borders to all intruders so that they only dealt with the restlessness inside.

Thirteen years passed.

Then each of the queens met together in an abandoned sky-bound castle. These maidens had used their powers to keep in touch with each other. Each Queen was pregnant.

In that castle three children were born on the same night. The daughter of the North Queen was called Kurayami. The Middle Queen dubbed her child Sakura. The last daughter was called Ayana and she was of the South.

It was in that magical night that the spirits awoke. All the most powerful and lesser spirits came and knocked on the door of the castle. The ladies’ attendants opened the door and were shocked as the spirits came flooding in.

Each greeted the royalty with a gift. Much of it was gold and jewels, some were blessings and many simply gave thanks.

Afterwards the spirits gathered together and made a decision. The three most powerful spirits; Health, Time and Power gave each daughter a gift. Sakura was blessed with powers of Light and Earth, Ayana with Water and Wind and Kurayami with Darkness and Fire.

The powerful gifts bestowed, the spirits left.

One spirit came in the darkness of the night to the newborn’s sleeping chamber. He first cradled Ayana with the intent of blessing first her and then the others. It was not to be.

The Dream Walker was almost finished his spell when a great clamor broke out in the lower levels.

It is said that in that same night the mage Kai heard of these gifts. It is also said he grew terribly jealous and attacked the castle with his magic. Great monsters stormed the place with rage burning in their eyes. They obeyed only Kai and slaughtered all they came across.

The Dream Walker knew not what to do, so he faded away into the shadows, taking the babe Ayana with him.

Sakura and Kurayami were left in the sleeping chamber unguarded. Their mothers rushed to their aid but were stopped by the monsters and murdered as everyone else.

Kai entered the sleeping chamber with a look of pride on his face.  Now he had the babies!
