- CounterStrike Killing?
|
|
Taken from The Province January 27, 2003
He lost a violent cyberwar game known as Counterstrike
and then shot the victor. Polic now think that losing the game and
being ridiculed about it triggered the Coquitlam Internet Cafe shooting
Jan. 18 that cost 17-year-old Christian Kwee hi life. The suspect
apparently was not only a bad loser but also a violent person illegally
packing a gun, Coquitlam RCMP said yesterday. "Whoever he [the
suspect] is, he is very violent and no doubt in possession of illegal
firearms, "said spokeman Cpl. Peirre Lemaitre as police appealed
for more witnesses to come forward."What we have heard is that
there was something that triggered the anger in the other person.
"Information coming to us is that he [the victim] was a winner
and somebody else was a loser and there were apparently word exchanged
-- perhaps in written form."
Counter strike is a violent shoot-'em-up game
that can be played on the Internet between players sitting a world
away or in the same room. The contest is between two teams or two
players, one acting as organized terrorists and the other as a counter-terrorist
force. After the Jan. 18 game at the ProGamers Internet Cafe on
North Road, Kwee was apparently dragged into a corner inside the
cafe and beaten up by three youths of Vietnamese ancestry, police
said. The youths later returned and administered another beating
before one of the youths shot Kwee once in the head.
Daniel Rosu, a friend of Kwee's older brother,
told The Province earlier that the incident may have been precipitated
by the initals of the victor of one Counter strike game which Kwee
had entered on the computer and which his rival interpreted as a
sign of disrespect. Internet cafe owner Harry Law says the shooting
"could happen anywhere," adding: "There's nothing
I can do about it." Polic agreed that what happened at the
cafe was the result of a combination of factors. "There are
many Internet cafes throughout the Lower Mainland and that is not
the normal way the games end," said Lemaitre. He said RCMP
are thinking ofreleasing a composite drawing of the suspects in
case the leads they now have do not result in an arrest or identification
of the suspects. There were at least 30 others in the cafe when
the shooting occurred, but most of the quickly left the premises
before police arrived.

Internet cafe, says shooting 'could happen anywhere.'

- Hello
|
|
Yo whats up, we just finished our 3rd match
in the R5L against R|P (Rapid
Impact). We played a pretty good game against them winning 13/2
CT-Side and 14/1 T-Side. Our Line up was "VooDoo, MonkeyBrain,
Supa, FaaQ, and Toyz". The map we played was de_chateau, not
exactly the most popular map to play, hence the difficulties we
had finding someone to scrim. But all in all, I think the strategies
we developed from the couple scrims we played worked quite nicely.
Now we cant forget about our 2nd match against
c7. It was
a dissapointing first loss for [UBD] losing 7/8 T-side and 4/11
CT-side. Our line up was "VooDoo, FaaQ, Obelix, Biotch, and
!unf" Could have won that game but i do believe it was lack
of practice.
And also, for those of you who are interested,
the newest release of Half-Life
IRC Tool version 1.20 is available for download. There are many
more features with this one along with several bug fixes. I haven't
tried it myself yet, but I found the older version to be most useful.

Well we succesfully won our first match against
MWD winning 12/3 T-Side and 9/2 CT-Side. Our line-up being "VooDoo,
MonkeyBrain, Toyz, Demoliton Man, and Faaq". We all played
a pretty good game but our communication got a little screwed up
every now and then, but we managed to get by that. Our next game
we will be playing against c7 Canadian
Seven on nuke, its gonna be a hard/fun game to play.

- Back Again?

Yes folks, it's true. I personally
took a huge break from CounterStrike for a while. I know what you
are thinking.. how in the world did he do that? Well it took a lot
of hard work. I started getting the shakes after the first 2 weeks,
vigorously struggling to fight the siren song of CS. But alas, it
got the best of me after a couple of months, and here we go again.
I've decided to let UBD be
open to all former members. We're in this for fun this time around.
When I say that it sounds like counterstrike is supposed to have
another purpose? Anyways, I signed us up for the Redphive
Gaming League. So far we have most of the old schoolers (Toyz,
FunCtioN, VooDoo,
Demolition_Man, SuPa
and AvH) along with FaaQ,
Obelix and a few others. We don't want
to expand beyond one league, due to the fact that we all actually
have lives. As much as we would like to dedicate ourselves to playing
Counter-Strike 9hrs a day PAUL, we simply have more important things
to do like watch t.v.
