I like to build my own. What can I say? If I had the time, knowledge and energy I'd build my own locomotives as well ( I also have a problem, moral and financial, with spending $80 + CDN on *one* freight car ).
I tend to stick toTed Stinson's plans from Garden Railways magazine ( see links page ). They are easy, use stock material and make a nice weekend project.
