"Back to the Future" - what a great 80's movie.... When I saw this model at Imperial Hobbies I knew I had to make it run. It took three years to do it "right". Right meant: a) motorized b) remote control c) sound. Fortunately I got all of that with the use of a toy called a "Mighty Mo" - an infra red remote controlled Corvette with cool sound effects and a motion sensitive alarm. Good thing too, because my own scratch built electronics kept on shorting out and threatened to melt it into a pile of slag. Two minor problems - the track in the film is standard gauge and mine is narrow - so the wheels are set into the body pretty far ( they barely fit in the chassis! ). Also I don't recommened infra red out of doors. The signal tends to get lost in daylight and I'd hate to think what sunlight is doing to the sensor! This picture was taken before it was completed so I do have the 1950's time circuits Doc put on the hood, as well as the Mr. Fusion. |
