As a British Columbian, I deeply oppose Ottawa's plans to expropriate
Nanoose Bay. I am proud to live in a province that has declared
itself nuclear weapons free. That our federal government would
take
such a strategy leaves me disgusted and actually frightened.
This is
not a greyscale issue, the facts exist in black & white.
1, British
Columbia has clearly and unequivocally stated that it does not want
nuclear weapons within it's borders. 2, Ottawa has no right to
impose their own agenda on what is clearly a local issue and
decision. While they may feel justified to use whatever laws
are at
their disposal, I think it is well understood by both sides that
the "right" is a legal one, not moral or fair in the least. I
have
from time to time disagreed with the actions of my federal
government, but until today I have never felt ashamed.
