Sir:
We strongly object to the proposed expropriation of the Nanoose Bay
seabed and
foreshore. If the United States government were to take this
action
unilaterally it would
be considered an act of aggression. The fact that the Canadian
government
is acting on
their behalf, against the wishes of our Province, is equally unacceptable.
It is also unacceptable that the Canadian government does not understand
or
honour our
wish to live in a nuclear-free environment. Cities in the United
States
have successfully
exempted their waters from torpedo testing and their harbours from
nuclear
powered/armed vessels, yet you are attempting to deny British Columbians
the
same
rights.
You must reconsider both the situation and the ill-conceived action
you
propose. Since
your advertisement states that the expropriation is to be "by Her Majesty
the Queen in
right of Canada" we have sent a copy of this letter to the Governor
General
with a
request that he intervene.
Sincerely,
Myra L. Waller
