Blessed are the peacemakers

In memorium: Gilbert Joe, Frances Ayres , Molly Bain, Frank Fuller, Elaine Griffith and Iris Griffith.

Francis Ayres, a long time human rights and peace activist on the coast could often be seen walking along in downtown Sechelt with ther cart.  She was courageous indeed to put so much energy into the local group of Amnesty International, attending all meetings until hospitalized a month ago, Francis  never yielded to injustice.  You are and will continue to be missed.

Many of you in the peace movement will know Iris Griffith.  She was a
steadfast activist (maybe she still is) and she and her family always
found creative ways of designing imaginative media to bring peace
messages to everyday places such as May Fair and Canada Day parades.
The message was always gentle, often humourous, but with a real
no-nonsense, stand-on-the-line of fire courage and common sense
perspective...Thank you for the time spent among us Iris.  Pleasant sailing...

Frank Fuller, long time teacher, labour, peace and human rights activist holds an eagle feather during visit with daughter, Dale.

FRANK LAWTON FULLER ended life's journey on Feb.14,2002. It began in
near poverty in Fort Worth, Texas on Apr.3,1917 and ended in Sechelt,
BC. The journey took him from Dallas Public Library1s nooks and
crannies, to a freight train headed for California during the Great
Depression, to waiting tables in Lake Tahoe where he met his wife Doris,
to the Aleutian Islands during WWII, to being a union organizer in Santa
Clara Valley during the dark days of McCarthyism, to becoming a teacher,
to the IWA in Portland as education director and finally to teaching on
the Sunshine Coast. He worked with the Sechelt People to develop a
curriculum based on their history and culture, now part of the
curriculum at Chatelech SS in Sechelt. He helped design a labour history
curriculum for BC schools and served as president of BCTF1s Labour
History Association. These were two sources of great pride for him, as
was his activism in the BCTF and the joy of teaching. Frank is survived
by Doris, his wife of 57 years, daughters Dale (Fernando), Terry,
Colleen (John) and son Michael (Ruth) and grandchildren Paco, Phatixx
(Michelle), Edgar, Doris and Carmen. The family invited Frank's friends,
former colleagues and students, the staffs of Shorncliff and Totem
Lodge, and others who would like to remember him, to a Celebration of
his Life  held in the Longhouse of the Sechelt Nation on March 30
at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated to: Doctors
Without Borders, 8th Floor, 2200 Yonge St., P.O. Box 31360, Stn. BRM B,
Toronto, ON, M7Y 5M1, or donations to the Food Banks on the Sunshine
Coast.
