We, the undersigned residents of Canada draw the attention of the House to the following:

 

THAT

The terrible events of September 11, 2001 have shown how desperately urgent it is to address the underlying causes of violence and terrorism, and  How desperately urgent it is to draw upon the enormous reservoir of human compassion of all people to mobilize an unprecedented effort towards the eradication of poverty,  human rights abuses, and raw terror as a major tool of any group or nation, and that Canada has a tradition of peacemaking and can take a leadership role in building a world without terror, a world of peace,

 

THEREFORE,    your petitioners    call upon Parliament to

establish a Ministry of Peace to signal to the world that in this the Third Millennium our commitment to global peace is a major priority deserving of serious attention  and ongoing priority amongst our government objectives.  And in the establishment of this Ministry the mandate would be to aid, in an expressly non violent way, the prevention and resolution of international, national and regional conflicts;  and, In addition include in its mandate the reduction and prevention of domestic violence such as child abuse and the mistreatment of the elderly.
