TOXIC TEARS

film proposal from Robert Nichol

INTRODUCTION:

"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act"
- George Orwell

A ONE-HOUR DOCUMENTARY TELEVISION SPECIAL dealing with the effects of toxic
weaponry such as nerve gas and Agent Orange on military personnel and
civilians.  In particular, DU (depleted uranium) contamination.

There is no substitute for weapons of war that are harmful.  In the case of
an explosive charge or a sniper's bullet, all weapons inflict damage upon
humanity and the environment.  In the case of toxic weaponry, the damage
also afflicts us all, in that these contaminants stay with us, come home in
the troops and lay around in the environment indefinitely.  To this effect,
the use of such should be banned for evermore.

As producers we will employ all known means of research and reportage to
bring to light the many practices of the world's military that put into
harm's way,  all things - the people, the planet and all life forms on it,
in the use of toxic warfare.  We intend to expose once and for all the
nature of the thinking and military action that have placed at risk,
hundreds of thousands and undoubtedly, millions of people in the name of
"winning at all costs."  The time has come for this kind of thinking based
on fear, to end on this planet.

Clearly the military establishment is not being forthright in its assessment
of the impact of chemical and radiological warfare. In the case of depleted
uranium (DU), its use now being hotly debated around the planet, radiation
poisoning coming from weaponry used in the areas of peacekeeper activities
since the Gulf War, has caused much suffering in both military personnel and
civilians. No doubt the responsible authorities will face great culpability
should DU contamination be proven the case. We have information that such is
the case.

So what have we learned from lying and deceit? That it causes more lying and
deceit.  Why suffer at the hands of a military establishment that seeks to
rule at the expense of great harmfulness on the environment and the peoples
that inhabit it and at the risk of great stress and disease among its own
soldiers?

PREMISE:

This television documentary production will illuminate through special
footage and key interviews a history of the use of toxic armaments and
chemicals in warfare, especially the 20th century. Our program will overview
the catastrophic results of toxic warfare on human populations and
ecosystems
and we will provide special focus on the devastation wrought by the use of
depleted uranium armaments in the Gulf War and Balkan wars of the 1990s.
Toxic Tears will conclude with a message highlighting a need to curtail
toxic warfare in the face of mounting human misery, environmental
devastation and the military imperative - to win at all costs.
